Biocentrism

Biocentrism

A spell of cold coupled with a couple of holidays proved rewarding. I dug out and dusted off some forty odd printed pages on concepts like Biocentrism, Panpsychism, and Attention Schema theory. The reading material was in the shape of book review, commentary, and a FAQ sort of write up.

Biocentrism postulated that it is life that creates matter.  Intelligence and consciousness existed before the material universe could emerge. There are multiple universes and upon death consciousness migrates to a different universe to find another body.

According to my understanding, the biocentric concept takes an idealist stand that all that exists is information and it is the self that makes out things subjectively.

I see traces of both Hinduism and Buddhism in this biocentric theory. Soul, consciousness (universal as well as individual), and / or illusion (the maya) are visible in it.

Interesting though not convincing. Shall be looking out for more.

And the show goes on

We are an imperfect product of evolution in an imperfect universe which came into being without any purpose. All the things material, from a simple unicellular organism to a very complex cellular human body, are made up of certain ingredients in some proportions environmentally determined, but far from being perfect either in composition or function.

All living and non-living bodies have to undergo routine wear and tear and withstand the vagaries of Nature. We fight to survive and this continues till the failure of this imperfect body. We die but not without inflicting some changes on the very environment which was responsible for our rise and eventual demise.

The genes we pass on to posterity make it better equipped to fight the environment on those exposed fronts. But the imperfections on both sides (Nature as well as individual) open new battle frontiers for us in the fight for survival. And the show goes on.
