The Dragon Land

The Dragon Land: Komodo national Park

The Komodo National Park Islands - an aerial shot
To see the dragon in the wild you have to go to one of the three islands (or all) – Padar, Rinca, Komodo. A three-day trip is well suited. Here’s how you go:
The airport at Labuan Bajo. Aptly named KOMODO

Day 1: Take a flight from Denpasar (Bali) to Labuan Bajo about 1 hour 30 minutes to the east. 72 seater ATR flights from Garuda, Wings, and Lion airlines are available.

The Beast at rest

Book a hotel in Labuan Bajo and contact a reputed tour operator for the next day’s boat journey. They have boats mostly to Rinca and Komodo Islands. Some include Padar as well.

Day 2: Take a one day tour.

Day 3: Take a flight back.

I did this trip in the month of October. Unfortunately, our trip was curtailed to half and we could only visit Rinca. They said that the Harbour Master had refused permission to visit Komodo owing to high tide at the island. Some of us were not convinced but that was it.
