Ayutthaya
This ancient city in Siam (now Thailand) came into being in
1350 CE founded by the Siam Kings who ascribe their lineage to Lord Rama – the
legendary Hindu God. The name Ayutthaya also resembles Ayodhya – the capital
city of Lord Rama’s Kingdom in India. By the year 1700, it was the biggest city
in the world with a population of one million. It became one big trading hub in
Siam with merchants from different parts of Asia and Europe transiting through
and doing business as well.
The end came in 1767 CE when the city was invaded by the
Burmese who burnt it down thus confining a thriving cultural and business
centre to history. The burnt borne by the city is visible in its ruins. Today
Ayutthaya is a modern city like any other in the country and its ancient status
has brought it on the list of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

Angkor,
Bagan, Ayutthaya.
Ayutthaya falls in the ilk of world famous Angkor at Siam
Reap in Cambodia and Bagan in Myanmar. Though the expanse and enormity of
Ayutthaya is nowhere near that of the two giants but the cultural and
civilization history of this heritage place is on par with those excellent
heritage sites.
A wonderful destination that every visitor to Thailand ought
to have it on their bucket list.
